As a young one, I used my Dad’s turntable quite a bit, listening to several of his vinyl records and listening to my own records on my turntable. Not long after, I started acquiring digital formats and listening to vinyl less, then not at all and subsequently discarding all of my records and player.
Fast forward to 2019 when I acquired a number of my Grandpa’s records. I reluctantly took them because I no longer owned a turntable and was hesitant to purchase another one just to play the handful of these newly acquired records.
Months later, a coworker knew that I listened to a lot of jazz music. She bought me a live Miles Davis record though I still did not own a turntable. At that point, I decided to buy one to play all of these records given to me.
After doing some shopping, I purchased a new Audio Technica AT-LP60. It is a great quality player that cost me a little over $100.
Reasons for buying a turntable:
✔️ Play several records given to me.
✔️ Create digital recordings of these albums. A number of record stores I visited have discount bins and often there is something in there that looks like a good purchase and more-so if the record costs less than purchasing a CD.
✔️ Purchase vinyl formats of some of my all-time favorite albums.
✔️ Discover music via record stores. Examples: Expanding my classical library, I have since purchased several classical music records and three Cleveland Orchestra records.
✔️ Enjoy a throwback to when music was played on a device completely separate from an Internet connection.
